Learning and fun: Student Teaching week 13

When it comes to learning no one enjoys going to a class every day and listening to straight lecture. Having different things going on in your class is SO important to keep students interest. This past week I really upped my game with variablity. We did everything from making Macro-invertebrate capture nets, to suturing bananas, to making butter, to practicing splinting skills on each other. Watching students interact and enjoy socializing and learning together at the same time is such an awesome thing to see. Having variability in the classroom not only makes content more fun for your students, it also helps you break up the monotony of what teaching may be.

Another great thing about variability is you teach content in many different ways, so you hit on a bunch of different intelligences, so a student that may not remember things after you taught them one way, but they may remember after you teach the content in a different way.

Watching the students light up and laugh when it came to some of the activities they got to do made my heart happy. I think it’s safe to say I get enjoyment from the students enjoying themselves while learning! Only 2 more weeks to go! Here’s to finishing strong!

Question for my readers:
What is one activity you have ever done for learning purposes and enjoyed it so much you didn’t even realize you were learning?
